Abstract
Vallecular cyst is a rare but dangerous disease causing stridor in neonates and young infants. Without recognition and proper therapy, the resulting airway obstruction can lead to serious morbidity and mortality. A-12 weekold female infant was referred because of feeding difficulty, inspiratory strior, chest retraction and failure to thrive. A neck lateral radiography and laryngoscopic examination showed 1.2 cm sized abnormal soft tissue mass at the vallecula. Diagnostic workup revealed a cyst at the tongue base, suggesting a vallecular cyst. Marsupialization under the laryngomicrosurgery with CO2 laser was done. After surgery the symptoms improved and the body weight increased steadily.
